How long is reasonable to wait for a quote?

I'm struggling to even get quotes from builders. Builder number 1 came and visited property 3 times, even got another tradesman out to help him build quote, 6 weeks on he's not quoted and I've given up on him. Builder number 2 came Friday, said I'll probably quote by the end of the day, still no quote today!
How long do quotes on average take to come over?

It’s variable - but we had five builders visit. The fastest quote was without seeing the property (all from drawings), within a couple of days. The other four all visited. We got quotes back within 2-4 weeks (the 4 week one was outsourced to their quantity surveyors, I think). One of those is missing a fairly key chunk of the budget as waiting for a specific trade to get back to them and after 5 weeks I’ve given up. For a decent sized job like an extension, I’d say up to four weeks is reasonable.

our experience has been that it takes ages. We asked a builder for different quotes for different things and he has almost finished some of the work before quoting for other bits, all asked at the same time. Depends how they feel, I think!
