Ring doorbells - please explain what kit I need

I am feeling very confused and silly.
We recently had an electrician come around to wire in a ring doorbell. All good. However, it rings on the unit by the door but you can't hear that inside the house unless you happen to be in the kitchen. It does flick up on my phone but that's only of use if I have my phone with me. And means the DC will never know if there's someone at the door.
What am I missing?

We have the ring plug in chimes which make a sound when the doorbell is pressed. Wouldn't be able to hear the doorbell without them... wasn't too impressed when I found this out as assumed all we needed was the doorbell and the chimes aren't particularly cheap!

We have one downstairs and one upstairs. Can hear it anywhere in the house this way.

You need a chime! Or more than one depending on how big your house is. We just have one plugged in by the front door. You can buy them from Amazon/John Lewis etc

Do you have an Alexa? They can make announcements that someone is at the door.

The chime. The chime is what makes you be able to hear it in the house.

Yes, a plug in Chime (or more than one if you like).
Like you I don't always have my phone to hand so without the Chime we wouldn't hear it. No Alexa either.
