Smelly carpets

Just purchased a house where owners had dogs, the smell is really bothering me, we have a dog who is groomed and bathed regularly so he doesn’t smell much, the smell is bothering him also, I want to replace carpets but not until next month, what can I use to make the smell even a little better? I have tried carpet spray/mousse but doesn’t do a lot of good

Try bicarbonate of soda - sprinkle over the carpets, leave overnight and hoover up (like the old shake and vac stuff).

We had the same. Couldn’t get new carpets for four months due to a shortage of fitters. We had them professionally cleaned but it made the smell worse as 40 years worth of dog got released 😂😂😂😂

The carpet shop recommended Shake and Vac and it absolutely worked. You need a decent amount but it’s only £1 a bottle. I gave it a couple of goings over and the smell eased off hugely. I mean, I am still getting new carpets but they don’t stink any more - I can live with them.

I have tried shake and vac already, two bottles worth, smell has eased but still stinks, I have ordered some bicarbonate of soda, thanks both

Have you tried an enzyme cleaner?

Vanish do a carpet cleaner thing at £1 it’s like gold dust round here but if you can be bothered I put some in a tub with water then washed into carpets with a sponge

Depends, if wee has dropped into the floorboards you're likely going to have to replace. Urea crystals form and don't go away. If it's general dog smell, get a Vax or hire a rug doctor. We bought a Vax in the end for £150, and we use it all the time now we have stinky dogs
