IKEA kitchen doors

Looking for any feedback or tips for replacing kitchen cabinet doors with IKEA doors, while keeping the carcasses we have.

The existing kitchen cupboards are tired looking, but they are still sturdy enough. The doors are pretty battered. Not sure how old they are, we are here 2 years now, I reckon they might be 10-15 years old

Assuming we can get the correct sizes, do any of you know if it is doable, and if it is straightforward enough to do?

Ikea cabinets are currently called METOD, if your current cabinets are the metod ones then you can just chose the new doors that you like and change them. If it’s an older ikea kitchen (the carcasses were called something like faktum) then those are unfortunately different sizes but there are companies that make replacement doors for faktum kitchens. However none seem to be as cheap as ikea doors.

I moved house and found it was an old ikea kitchen (had a metod at my old house) and resigned myself to not being able to change it. I could tell because come of the cabinets were 50cms wide. Metod only comes in 20, 40, 60, 80 cms etc. so if you have a quick measure you could check if it might be a new or old one. Metod replaced faktum in 2014 so it’s likely you have a faktum kitchen.

You can get a company like dream doors to come out and give you a quote.

Sorry @mmmmmchocolate I should have said, I don't know if they are IKEA at all. (is there a way to check?) I will measure them up in any case, but was more wondering if their doors can be put on a different unit. Thanks for taking the time to write all of that!

Thanks for the recommendation @butterfly990 - I'm not in the UK but I imagine there is a similar service here.

I was hoping it would be cheaper and easy enough to DIY it

I used to work for IKEA in the days of faktum not Metod. The factum carcuses are not standard sizes and therefore don't fit non-ikea doors.

I don't know about Metod sizing.

An alternative is to buy a second hand kitchen from a kitchen showroom or just from ebay and hope that you have enough of the right sizes.

Remember that most carcuses can fit either drawers or doors. So you are not necessarily stuck with your existing door/drawer configuration. Just make sure that you can open the drawer that if it's in a corner that the adjacent door handle doesn't get in the way etc.

Most manufacturers also will let you buy a sample door.

I meant to reply last week and say thank you @butterfly990

We measured everything up and checked with our local B&Q. Our doors are the same size as theirs so we have ordered new doors and worktops. Looking forward to freshening up the room.
