What gives you the ICK when viewing houses?

Partner and I viewed some houses today and we both agreed that one house was definitely not for us because we got the ICK.

Never happened to me with a house before plenty of times with boyfriends though

Just wondered if others got it with houses and what caused it.

Bit worried about something in ours causing the ICK too now!

Not nice smells.
Particularly dog smell 🤮

smell of pets.
smelly toilets.
fake grass.

Being on a road that makes it feel claustrophobic. Decorating done badly. (Would prefer it just to old fashioned but well done). Wallpaper on all the walls. Low fences and oddly, too tall hedges that I’ve no hope of trimming.

The time I went into the bedroom and there was a pair of visibly pooey pants in the middle of the bed.

Smell of cigarette smoke

We don’t have any pets so luckily no pet smells giving our viewers the ICK

I can overlook that as smells can be removed when it’s your house.

Not a fan of fake grass but can rip it out so it’s not an ICK thing for me either.

Places that smell of bleach.

OMG pirate. That would be an immediate no from me too. I’d always have that image every time I went into that room.

Bad smells
Dirty bathrooms, especially if they have hair on the floor/in the shower
Clutter
stained toilets

Smells, particularly dog or damp.

Obviously shoddy DIY that has money pit written all over it.

Black mould or water stains over the ceiling.

A location that's uncomfortable. I viewed some houses where curtains were visibly twitching while I waited for the estate agent and it just felt uncomfortable.

My ex and I once viewed a lovely house, but we were completely put off by the strong smell of wee in a child's bedroom.

Smell of teenage boy or general unwashed bodies in bedrooms
Kitchen that looks or smells greasy
Carpet in bathroom or kitchen

Most of them wouldn't stop me buying the house (smell of smoke might, if it was quite bad).

Also cigarette smoke

Smell of sickly vape, cigarette smoke or fried food. Any smoking/vaping paraphernalia. Cigarette butts or an ashtray by front or back door. See this a lot in my job and it just looks slovenly.

Went for a second viewing on a house we were 99% on buying. On our way out we were looking at the garden and noticed the next door neighbour (attached with a shared drive) was glaring at us with her face practically pushed up against the glass.
Immediately we changed our mind about the property and we went from loving it to it being an absolute no.

Neighbours unkept garden/house. - the ones that have a scrapyard in their back garden type. And the house that did have a licensed recycling yard next door.

Dirty kitchens bathrooms
Bad smells
Unmade beds

Filthy dirty greasy kitchens and vermin.
Having said that we did buy a house like that although the rats were in the garden not the house.

Not 'ick', but the two interior features that would put me off buying a home, due to the hassle and expensive of replacing them, would be:

• cheap laminate flooring
• high-gloss kitchen units

I hate seeing the toilet seat left up in photos. Yuck. Close the lid too while you are at it.

Once viewed a house ...went into a bedroom and there was a teen in bed !!!,

Cats & litter trays
Dogs
Old people smell

When looking, the only houses we could afford gave us the ice- we just had to choose what type of ice we could cope with 😂

Once viewed a house which was an HMO and some poor bloke was still in bed. He just pulled the covers over his head and the estate agent cracked on…

The owner being there! In both occasions it's happened the owner has seemed prickly and as if they were sizing us up rather than us there to view their home! Stops an honest conversation with estate agents too.

Ick not ice 🙄
