Not sure who I need to approach as a starting point if anyone can help?

About to move in to a new house and the kitchen currently has 2 rooms coming off it which we want to knock through to become one open plan room. We also want to add a 2nd storey extension to the already converted garage.

Who is the best person to contact to help with feasibility of our plans as well design input and cost of job?

Also, will we need planning permission to extend upwards? It is a detached property not close to another house.

Thanks and sorry for the stupid questions. Never done anything like this before so feeling a little overwhelmed.

I contacted an architect. I got a free one hour consultation- then commissioned him to draw up plans for my extension - he also recommended a structural engineer to specify the beam work required. He advised on whether planning permission was required - and submitted the plans to building control.

once you have the plans you can then get estimates from builders. I have got them to manage the plumbing and electrics etc.

To add - the architect gave a tough
estimation of cost - and he wasn’t far off.
