Cheap window

I've had a very cheap quote for windows from a local company. Much, much cheaper that a well know national company.

Should I be suspicious? What things do you check before getting new windows?

Our local company was brilliant, I'm sure national companies have a massive mark up. Maybe check what brand of windows they'll be using and if they're FENSA accredited? Also ask local facebook groups if anyone local has used them? You can ususally see google, yell, checkatrade reviews too?

National companies (eg Anglian, Safestyle) are well known for rip-off prices and high pressure selling techniques. Definitely go local, ask around.
There are other schemes which are exactly the same as FENSA (eg Assure and Certass) so do your homework and don't let that limit your choice.

ignore the national company quotes, get some more local independent quotes and then you can tell whether it's really cheap or just actually a realistic quote

Many thanks for advice all. I was just a bit suspicious because I didn't contact them, they came and knocked on the door.

The national company I got a quote from was safestyle and it was almost double!

I was just wondering why the price difference was so big and whether the local company would be cutting corners, or whether there be a major difference in quality.

Will take advice on here and check them out, and maybe get another quote. Thanks all.

Someone randomly knocked on your door to quote for windows and the quote seems too good to be true?

Please re-read what you’ve written and then go running to the hills. NEVER buy anything offered unsolicited at the door.

That's what my dad said 😂

They seemed legit though. Will investigate and get more quotes...

Oh the fact that it was an unsolicited seller door knocking would make me a bit 😬 too. But yeah if you can try and do your homework on them, check their accreditation and references, they might be legit? Seriously though, maybe get at least one more quote from a local window fitter/company. X
