Do I need to let the council know I'm having wider bi folds?

Hi there,

I'm currently in the process of getting planning permission for a small extension on my house.

Currently the drawings have a space of 227 cm for bi folds, but I've spoken to a glass specialist who said I need a space of 260cm in order to get a 3 panel bi fold door in. It's only marginally bigger and doesn't over look anyone.

I'm wondering if I need to let planning know?

Thanks

Are you in a conservation area or is there anyone who might dispute your planning application? If so I'd suggest being extra careful and asking the council directly to ask if you need to send amended drawings. I'm not sure anyone would dispute an extra 30cm though. It's not like you are building out by an extra 30cm, just dividing the wall differently in terms of how much glass

I think you need to tell them. When we did our extension we were told the bi-folds needed to be smaller than what was on our plans.

You may need to resubmit drawings for planning and building regulations.

No I'm not in a conservation area, it's only a small extension 4 metres by 4 metres and not overlooking anyone. It's classes as a larger home extension and under the permitted development rights. So I think it should be hopefully ok. It's only a small adjustment. The structural drawings haven't been done yet, that's the next step. Then I can find out if the walls are big enough to support the ceiling.

Thanks 😊

If it's under PD then no you don't need to tell them.
