A parking one!

Ok so I might be being unreasonable in feeling annoyed but I went away for a week on the 1st June and when I returned there was a strange car parked right outside my house and it hasn't moved since.

The street is Victorian terraces and the doors open right onto the pavement. It's a public road with no restrictions and I've checked and the car is taxed and MOTed.

It's a busy road with lots of cars and parking is at a premium. Several neighbouring roads are permit parking which means mine is particularly busy with not just our residents and visitors but neighbouring roads residents and visitors.

Obviously I know it's allowed to be parked there but I've never seen it before and it's really really strange that it's not moved in nearly 2 weeks. Usually cars come and go several times a day and move spaces regularly. It's like it's been dumped there/stolen or in my more paranoid moments I feel like someone's put it there to piss me off.

How can I find out who owns it and if it's legit? I don't really want to bother my local police as it's not a crime or an emergency. They are also in process of reworking the local policing teams so I don't even think there's a designated officer for my area anymore.

I know I shouldn't let it get to me but it's winding me up!

Report it to 101 as a possible abandoned car? They will be aware if its stolen. Type the reg into Facebook search to see if anyone has made any posts about it.

Do you live near an airport? Could be someone away on holiday?

Anotherusernamethisweek · 20/06/2022 23:17

@ifoundthebread I've entered into Facebook, great idea but no posts.

@lizzie0712 we don't live near an airport but my partner just said he reckons someone's gone on holiday. He said maybe it was a friend of someone who lives nearby and they've left the car and gone on the train or in another persons car.

I'll give them another 2 weeks before reporting it abandoned I think.

Our house is on the market and lack of parking is the one thing putting people off, this is not helping 😬

Councils deal with abandoned cars, not the police.

Talipesmum · 20/06/2022 23:27

Ah we had this. We are in a small row of terraced houses, on the edge of commuter parking territory. There is enough space down the road for us each to park one car. The main road off to the side has loads of spaces for parking so usually we are ok, and sometimes random commuters park up outside one of our houses during the day but normally they’re gone by the evening. And one day a random car was parked up outside next door and it stayed for 4 weeks! Then it disappeared for a month or so, and returned for 2 weeks, then we’ve not seen it since. Drove us all mad, especially cos it wasn’t doing anything wrong - just infuriating us! I gave it all my bad vibes and was seriously considering a Note. But luckily it left.

Talipesmum · 20/06/2022 23:29

Oh and to add, it was all taxed and mot’d and there was nothing anyone could do. One of the tetchier neighbours called the police but obviously they weren’t interested.

Anotherusernamethisweek · 21/06/2022 08:23

@Talipesmum it's so frustrating. And rude 🤣 parking is probably the main reason we want to move, fingers crossed people without a car want to buy it 🤣
Also not wanting to sound snobbish but the car is a heap and is not making my house look appealing 🤣🤣

The car is allowed to be there, so time to stop stressing about it as you. Cannot do anything about it.

better to put your energy into campaigning for residents parking in your street.

anotherusernamethiswerk · 26/11/2022 22:51

OMG! The car has moved. FIVE months it was there 🤣🤣

I left the house on Friday to take the kids to school and a young man in a beanie hat was scratching his head by the car. My neighbour came out and asked him what he was doing and he said his car had broken down. She said THIS IS YOUR CAR???!! Then went back inside and slammed the door.

It disappeared before lunchtime.

I can't believe it.

SilentHedges · 26/11/2022 23:32

@Anotherusernamethisweek I do like an update 🤣

Originally you were frustrated as the car was a dump and you were trying to sell your house. I guess if someone abandoned a Lamborgui it might have done you some favours in the marketing pics! Did you sell in the end?

anotherusernamethiswerk · 27/11/2022 06:56

@SilentHedges yes we have sold! Should be completing in a couple of weeks. I can't believe it moved before we did.

I did get used to it being there. Sort of sad to see it go, feels like something is missing 🤣🤣🤣

EverybodyDance · 27/11/2022 07:00

That was a rollercoaster! Grin

picklemewalnuts · 27/11/2022 07:26

That's amazing !! What a noodle.

You could report your post and get the name changes to people can see you are OP, by the way!

Did you manage to sell?
