3 seater sofa - does it ever really seat 3?

Hi,
am considering buying a new sofa , but was just pondering , however long the sofa is, surely no one likes sitting in the middle and not having an arm rest ? Is there another benefit of a longer sofa that I’m missing ?

Two people can sit on 3 seater with feet up
Better to lie down and snooze on
3 visitors can sit on (would rather have no arm than the floor!)
4-5 kids can sit on
Dog can sit between dh and I

An adult can lie down on a 3 seater.

We have a five seater corner sofa. It's perfect for DH to both sit on it with our feet up at the same time.

No, I don’t think so. Nobody wants to sit in the middle. It’s better for 2 to share or to stretch out in than a two seater though.

I would buy a 3 seater for 2 people. Then you have space to put your feet up or at least spread out without bashing into the other person. 2 seaters are usually tiny! For more than 2 people a corner sofa is good - 2 ends with arm rests and the middle in the corner is comfy.

People always prefer to sit one person less than the seating allows.

So 2 people on a 3 seater is good, but only one person is comfy on a 2 seater. Else you both sit upright and are almost too close for conversation, its a bit intense.

I had a 2 seater sofa bed, thinking it would be good for visiting friends to crash (especially teenage DC mates). I have replaced it with a 3 seater normal sofa that is comfy to sleep on.

We've got a 3 seater with two large seat and back cushions, so both DH and I can spread out on it. Though he's usually banished to a chair and the dogs are beside me Blush

This is very helpful! Having a chuckle about 2 people in an intense situation on a 2 seater ! Make me think of an awkward interview/ training at work !

I've got a 4 seater, it has 2 massive cushions, rather than 4 though. We have a 2/3 seater too but all 4 of us (5 and 8 year old) sit on the big 1 every night, we love it. I bought it knowing the kids would want to sit with us... hoping we're all not still it on it when they're teens though 🙈

It's amazing to sleep on, which isn't great as means i do it far too often 😳I used to get cramp when sleeping on our previous smaller one!

Yeah. You really need a three seater for two people. Measure up and you’ll see.

Yes, it feels like an awkward Role Play!

3 people sit on our 3 seater twice a year - Christmas Day & Eurovision.

The rest of the year I have my (short) legs up on it. The 2 seater isn’t long enough.

We looked at getting a 4 seater but went for the 3 seater instead. People want an arm being in the middle is rubbish. But a 2 seater is too small for 2 people ideally.
We have big 3 seaters so people can sleep on them too. they have big seats, almost the same size as a single bed when the back cushions are off.
