Sunny garden

Hi, I’m looking at buying a house off plan & unsure as to whether the garden would get any sun! Current house faces south so I’m spoilt with all day sunshine. It’s plot 115, facing NNE, end of terrace with the door on side, facing west. The garden faces NNE. However as it’s reasonably open toward the west would it get the sun? Thanks! Any advice would be appreciated.

Two storey houses?

Notmyyearthisyear · 12/06/2022 19:12

Which part of the garden is the back garden?

ElenaSt · 12/06/2022 19:14

Hope this helps

Yes regular two storey

So plot 115, is on right end of the block of four, the house is on its side, but garden essentially facing NNE. So the back garden is in the green block with ‘115’

I think you'd probably get the sun from about 2pm until sunset, in summer.

Ignore my last, just seen the compass on your plan. The garden faces SW?

3WildOnes · 12/06/2022 20:29

It looks like the garden is SW facing?

Becc11 · 12/06/2022 20:31

Thanks for the video, helpful use of google maps. It’s confusing though as I understand that to get the direction the house is facing, you face your compass to the front. If you follow this vid, it suggests facing it to the back, which is the complete opposite of the true facing position. All a little confusing ☺️

The garden is SW facing? So you’d probably get good sun!

Becc11 · 12/06/2022 20:34

Does it not follow the direction of the house? If it was SW, it would be sunny pretty much all day. Not sure the is possible given the East position & likely shadows to cast from the 3 adjoined houses to the right.

The compass shows the garden as SW facing. Which is the same as mine. I get lovely all day sun.

RitaFires · 12/06/2022 20:42

If the front of the house faces NNE then the back garden will face SSW. You measure how the house faces from the front of the house but the garden aspect is based on looking out at the back garden from the house.

Becc11 · 12/06/2022 20:42

Is SW as you stand facing the front of your house, or stood facing the boundary at the back?

OP posts:
RitaFires · 12/06/2022 20:45

For the garden aspect you face away from the house to the boundary at the back.

Becc11 · 12/06/2022 20:47

Thank you! My current house front faces SSE… back stood facing the garden is NNW - I get sun all day. So that doesn’t follow this at all… ahhhhhh 😆😄

Download the app called Sun’s Path.
It overlays the sun onto google maps and will show you where will get sun throughout the day and the year.

Bimblybomeyelash · 13/06/2022 09:26

That looks to be SW facing. Which is the same as my garden which is an absolute sun trap. You’ll be wanting to plant some
small trees for shade!
