We have been lucky enough to have input in new kitchen in new house but original planned extractor looks odd as the casing at rear can be seen wondering if anyone else had same issue,(no wall units either side)unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of worst angle when you approach kitchen
thanks in advance 🙂

it looks odd because it is big and black (seems like a TV at the wrong angle) and there is nothing for it to connect to on either side.

If that is already in place & can't be changed, I would put some open shelves on each side to put decorative things, for example a house plant that will trail down on a little shelf between extractor and window, and cookbooks or a big decorative jug on open shelves about the microwave. That will reduce the visual impact of the extractor.
