Carpet recomendation please!

We need to carpet most of our house. I never had carpets other than in the bedrooms before as we had wooden floors including stairs and landings.
I cant tell the difference between a good or not so good carpet! Which colour ( neutral ) to get..what weave ...? Am attracted to knobbly one s with texture.. and is wool or synthetic best??
I have limited access to shops as live rurally and the local ish carpet shop on a small industrial estate is really friendly ,but I just dont know what to buy!

I'll bump this too. I haven't had carpet for over 15yrs and I want to have it on the stairs, landing and in the bedrooms, I just have no idea what to get.

I bought carpets that wipe clean. They are the best thing ever. They look like wool but you can bleach them if you need to.
Bobbly carpets don't work with cats or dogs they destroy them. Smooth are best.
Good underlay essential.

I’m in the market for carpet too. I dug up an old thread on here (no link, sorry) and there was a lot of talk about slightly cheaper carpets but good underlay, plus watch out for moths with wool!

I guess I might go to the friendly people and describe what you think you might want, get told you’re wrong and you want the other instead, baulk at the price then come to a compromise. That’s my plan anyway.

I had wool in mind.. never thought re moths! Also disnt know yiu can get wipe clean carpet!! Thanks

Have a look at the Cormar Carpet company. I chose from the Boucle Neutrals range. Wool mix with a bit of texture. I found it to be very easy to keep clean with 2 cats and a small dog. Used simple solutions pet cleaner range on it without any colour change.
i agree with the suggestion of good underlay.
