We are planning an extension at the back of our house to have an open plan kitchen diner space with a small utility coming off it. Currently only half of the back was extended by the previous owners with french doors and a window and this room gets very warm on hot days. We have to close the curtains during the very hot days from around 11am to prevent this room getting very hot.
Now we plan to square off this extension, it gives us a chance to ensure we don't put too much glass or have it facing the sun with the thermal effects that come with it. It is tempting to have bifolds or sliders on the whole back of the house and it would look amazing but I fear this will be too warm on the hot days. Currently we have planned to also have veluxes in the extension roof but now I'm questioning this too since I have seen some people complaining about the heat in lanterns and other similar windows.
Any ideas on how to we can get the great look without the thermal effects of lots of glass?
