A leak came through the ceiling a few days ago - the flat smells very musty ever since, and these red marks have appeared along a corner.
It definitely smells like mold, and the red colour and texture would suggest the same to me.
However, the landlord insists that it’s just the previous coat of paint coming through. This seems unlikely - while the building is old, it was completely overhauled and turned into brand new flats very recently.
The landlord just wants to paint over the stains, but if it really is mold, surely it needs to be remediated rather than hidden…
What do we think - is it mold, or is the landlord right?
