No downstairs loo

FriendlyPineapple · 04/06/2022 10:59

It's funny actually, we in desperation bought a house that had a lot of these issues, and we've had to do a lot of (expensive) work, but we are SO going to make our money back when we come to sell years down the line.

tokyotea · 04/06/2022 11:00

Main busy road
All open plan downstairs
No parking
No downstairs toilet
New build with tiny garden

Prettypussy · 04/06/2022 11:01

A dining room with the stairs in it,
Bedrooms where you need to access through another bedroom,
Lack of chimney breasts and fireplaces,
Open plan gardens,
Shared driveways,
Near a river, motorway or next to a field where it look like houses could be built in the future.

hugoagogo · 04/06/2022 11:03

I don't think I have ever had so many replies! Smile
Hopefully someone will overlook: no parking no front garden, cat and single glazing when we come to sell.Confused

No downstairs toilet
only one bathroom
paved garden

muddyford · 04/06/2022 11:05

Shared access.
No second lavatory.
Sitting room open plan with kitchen.
Being unable to walk from the kitchen to the front door without going through another room.
Kitchen with no outside door (through a conservatory is OK).

easyday · 04/06/2022 11:06

Front door straight off the pavement
No hallway
Very busy road
No garden

Everything else I could fix

h0tXberns · 04/06/2022 11:06

I think our house has or had most of the things mentioned so far!

But it's also a beautiful house with stunning views and right on the edge of a forrest park that's famous for being gorgeous. Kerb appeal and period features are fab. Big square kitchen diner. In our town people regularly say "those are the nicest houses in town" and they sell in days.

Its considerable crimes include:
Only 1 loo
Only 1 parking spot
Back garden is actually just a large flagged yard
Hideous but recently done bathroom
Pretty much derelict fitted kitchen we can't afford to do up yet
Front door straight into lounge (we actually caused this by knocking the hall and living room into 1- I promise it was a good decision)

I think if you have an average to moderate budget, every house has compromises.

Shufflebumnessie · 04/06/2022 11:08

Plug in air fresheners (or similar). I always wonder what smell they're actually trying to mask, plus they trigger my migraines.

WonderingWanda · 04/06/2022 11:08

Shared driveways
Busy roads / view of a dual carriage way
Downstairs bathroom
Damp
A roof that looks like it needs replacing
No outside space

RampantIvy · 04/06/2022 11:08

We back on to a railway line. However, we are rural and get one train an hour each way, and I never notice the two coach trains going past. It measn we are only a 5 minute walk to the station, which is a positive in my book.

2bazookas · 04/06/2022 11:09

Things I can't change.

Adjacent powerlines/ pub/busy junction/school/restaurant/outlook.

Terrible kitchen/bathroom/decor/mess/ overgrown garden/creep owner, are no problem at all; they deter competition and none of them will be staying. I've bought some terrible dumps because they were the right price and size IN A MARVELLOUS LOCATION.

HappyHappyHermit · 04/06/2022 11:10

Open plan, more than one flight of stairs, technically detached but very close to next door, small garden, dark houses, upside down houses, no bath, no parking, tiny hallway (would rather not have one).

ChanceNorman · 04/06/2022 11:12

No window in the main bathroom. It's my only absolute dealbreaker.

We lived in a rental for 9 months between houses, with no bathroom window. 5 of us in the house and I absolutely detested not being able to air it out. Expensive extractor fan, toilet poo spray, air freshener - it still felt like the upstairs of our house smelt like poo every single day 🤢

It could be the most fantastic house at a 90% discount and I still wouldn't consider it, I don't know how people bear it.

DinosaursEatMan · 04/06/2022 11:13

Shared access
No off-road parking
Smoke or dog smell
Gravelled garden
Too near a railway, motorway or airport

Bouledeneige · 04/06/2022 11:14

No kerb appeal, small living room/dining room and location is everything. If viewing, bad smell and signs of dis-repair.

Glitterspy · 04/06/2022 11:14

Traffic noise. Even if everything else was perfect I’d never buy a house on a main road. I grew up in one and hated it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/06/2022 11:18

I wouldn’t even look a house if there was only one toilet, and shower, or on a main road. If I got to the house and the garden was overlooked, or the neighbours gardens were messy or houses were needing maintenance that would put me off too.

Thisisit2022 · 04/06/2022 11:20

Short, fucking bastard fence. At least it will from now on. Lesson learned.

BellePeppa · 04/06/2022 11:22

I think they’re ok as long as there is another proper sitting room as well. I couldn’t have the kitchen/sitting room as my only space to chill. A combination of cooking smells, tv, lack of privacy (eg wanting to chill and watch something I enjoy watching away from family, like period dramas) would drive me mad.

CandleSchtick · 04/06/2022 11:23

Smell of dog. I can always tell where there's been a dog.

floppybit · 04/06/2022 11:24

Leylandii tree or any other similar huge conifer in neighbouring garden, meaning your own garden would be in darkness, your soil ruined, and there's nothing you can do about it. Also, bedroom so small it's only got a bed in it and no wardrobe

floppybit · 04/06/2022 11:25

Agree with no bath!!

jackstini · 04/06/2022 11:27

North facing garden
Small kitchen with no dining space
No en suite
No downstairs loo
Front door straight onto street
Carpet in bathroom
No space to wfh
Smelly
Damp
Overlooked
