Would you send your survey to your mortgage broker?

My mortgage broker has asked me to send him a copy of my survey. Is this unusual? I think it’s because they want to quote me for buildings insurance but can’t I just buy that online myself?

It may well be - but why not let them quote, you can always say no?

It may also be so that they can preempt any issues that the lender might pick up, eg construction, trees etc and start looking into it. Do you not trust them?

I think it’s a bit strange. You’re not supposed to send the document to the vendors, the estate agent, or even your solicitor, so to be asked to send it to the broker feels a bit odd.

My mortgage has been approved so presumably the lender is happy.

Do all mortgage brokers quote for buildings insurance and so ask for a copy of the survey?

I'd ask why they want it, then decide if the request is reasonable.

I'm a mortgage broker and never asked for or needed the survey report. And I do my own building and life insurance so that's not the reason they want it. I can't see what reason they would want it for?

Also your solicitor will get a copy in the offer pack (unless it was a private, home buyers report?

It’s a private level 3 report.

Your solicitor absolutely should see your survey… ours picked up an issue on our survey that ultimately meant we pulled out.

Why would you not give it to your solicitor?

I'm of the opinion that the people you use during house purchases are exert whose opinions I'm paying for, therefore I wouldn't want to hide any information and will utilise their full knowledge and advice.

Just ask why she wants it?
