Curtains or other room divider?

Hello
have had to create new login, hopefully this one will work…
we have a large open plan space in our house, kitchen, dining area and large lounge in an L shape (there is another lounge and a study, but they are separate).
I want to create some kind of screen between the lounge and dining area. There is a very wide and high square archway in between.
however, DP loves the open plan and doesn’t want anything structural,- I had wanted folding half glazed doors.
we have got curtains up as a compromise but they look a bit crap,- on a pole which says a bit in the middle as it’s such a wide space.
shall I replace with some curtain track things right up by the ceiling? Or is there a better idea? I quite fancy a folding decorative fretwork screen but would it look weird if it isn’t high enough as standard ones are not as high as the archway?
sorry for the essay, thanks for ideas if you made it this far x
