Just had a quote for re plastering one small wall round a new door. £525. Does that seem high or is that normal now? £350 labour. £100 floor cover. £75 materials.

£100 for floor cover is a rip!! I’d personally get a few more

RedWingBoots · 31/05/2022 11:26

Are they covering the floor around the door and to any other room e.g. bathroom they are going to use? What's the distance?

As you can see the price on Screwfix/Toolstation.

DenholmElliot1 · 31/05/2022 11:28

How long will the job take?

Dustyflash · 31/05/2022 12:10

I was a bit surprised by the floor cover quote. He didn't mention needing to use the bathroom or anything. I can't imagine it would take any longer than a day. It's quite a small wall. Only about half a meter either side of a door opening. Floor to ceiling (not high), and a tiny strip above the door. It does include knocking off some blown plaster and bonding.

My husbands mate is a plasterer. He charges £220 a day including materials and labour. He just did a small box room who wanted it skimming, coved then painting white so he did the skimming and coving over one day then emulsion another day. He charged them £300 as it wasn't quite 2 full days. Including the white emulsion. I know the details as we've had him for a quote for something similar but we get mates rates 🙂

countdowntonap · 31/05/2022 13:23

We’ve just paid £1270 for plasterboarding of ceilings on landing and hallway, then all of the walls to be plastered in hallway, staircase and landing - including some quite complex scaffolding they had to use to cover the full drop of the wall on the staircase. Took three men two and a half days. They didn’t mention floor coverings in their quote or invoice but left the house spotless.
Therefore, I think the quote in the op is expensive.

RedWingBoots · 31/05/2022 16:19

Sorry I didn't make it clear that floor, furniture and door coverings aren't that expensive that's why I said check the price out on Screwfix/Toolstation.

He's basically put his contingency cost in the floor coverings.

Get another quote.

Are you in the north west at all?!

JoanIsRunningAgain · 31/05/2022 17:16

I am in Leeds my plasterer charges £250 a day then materials like plasterboard are on top. If a job is small they will charge a day rate as they can't do any other work that day.

My plasterer doesn't leave any mess, looks like he hasn't been plastering as he is pristine clothing wise and the property is left immaculate and the walls are glass smooth.

Dustyflash · 02/06/2022 17:25

Thanks everyone, I'm going to get more quotes. I did get another before this one (£250) but I'm sure he was a cowboy. He didn't want to knock off the loose plaster and he wanted me to provide the sheets for the floor.

I recently had a whole room approx 3x2.5m inc covering artex up and that was £700 all in.

Annalisehm · 02/06/2022 18:32

£120 day rate. 7mx4m living room artex ceiling skimmed over yesterday and we supplied the 4 bags of plaster. He brought all of his own sheets to cover the floor xx
