Loss Adjuster and insurance claim for DMIL - advice please!

Where to begin?!

MIL had a stroke in January that has affected her cognitive abilities but not her physical abilities. She lives alone following FIL's death 3 years ago. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful carer who visits twice a day to check mum takes her meds and heat up a meal (home cooked if it matters!) for her.

We had a call about a month ago from our lovely carer that water was dripping through the dining room ceiling...we rushed over and discovered that the main bathroom toilet was leaking (clean water luckily!) every time it was flushed. The leak turned out to be very longstanding, it was concealed behind a panelled in vanity unit. The leak is due to movement between the seal from the cistern and the toilet itself. No visible water in the bathroom. MIL has a downstairs loo so nobody uses the main bathroom except MIL.

We've got a quote from a builder and submitted it to the insurance company along with pictures of the damage - there's rot (don't know enough about it but it's definitely wet/dry rot in the floor boards and joists).

Having chased the insurance company I'm now having to do a video call with a Loss Adjuster tomorrow at mum's....

Does anyone have any experience of a similar situation or advice for me on anything I should or shouldn't do/say please??
