Painted stairs & floorboards in upstairs hall

I've always wanted painted floorboards upstairs (not the bedroom) as I think it looks nice and easy to keep clean.
I was thinking of a dark stain/paint.

Has anyone done this? Any advice?

I've done my stairs & bedrooms and it looks fab. I used F&B floor paint which I expected to maybe not last well but it's been bomb proof, so I'm very happy. I also used Dulux waterbased eggshell in another room and that was good too. The only disappointing paint was oil-based floor paint which yellowed in superfast time. I'll never used oil-based again.
