Engineered wood floor

Moved into our house 7 years ago, engineered wood floor throughout downstairs. Had it refinished probably 2 years ago. It's already a complete mess. Scratches, black marks in high traffic areas. Any tips on either the best thing to replace it with or how to maintain it. At the moment I'm just hoovering and mopping. I'm aware that it can probably only be sanded another once or twice. Any help appreciated!!

What wood type is the top layer? We had engineered oak flooring in our last house and had no problems with it - some very minor scratches but barely noticeable and no black marks. We put pads under all furniture/chair legs etc and did have a couple of area rugs but other than that, didn't have to do much to keep it looking as new.

Sorry I can't offer more help!

It's oak too I think. I think having dogs probably doesn't help. Pads on the furniture is a good idea, might get some for chairs
