neighbour having loft conversion

My neighbours wants to show me their plans for a loft conversion.
This will be right next to my bedroom as ours was done before we moved in.

I'm worried about noise. They are about to have a baby. I am a very light sleeper. How can I make sure they soundproof properly?

What do I need to know about party wall agreements? I've no experience of this. Any advice greatly appreciated.

With regards to soundproofing, isnt it YOUR responsibility also to make sure the soundproofing on your side is up to scratch? If your soundproofing is wafer thin then it isnt their fault.

I'm sure if you discuss with your neighbour (Who has been proactive in asking to show you their plans) then you could even maybe offer some suggestions or even a contribution so you BOTH end up with peace and quiet.

I would start with inviting them to see how much sound travels through so you can all agree to a plan of action.

Sets it out.

Most of it is about making sure that nothing happens to your existing extension and your property.

The loft itself will have to confirm to certain building controls in terms of soundproofing (and they will need to get sign off for this)

But you cannot actually stop them building a loft conversion - the party wall agreement wont do that. As long as they follow all the correct notices etc (which given they have told you with the plans it is highly likely they will) it will be going up

Soundproofing is both of your responsibilities.
