Hi all,

We have viewed a property in Killamarsh NE Derbyshire and I was wondering if you lovely people could please give an indication of the area and lifestyle?

What is it like to live there?
School ratings etc
Crime rates

I've tried to research with my friend Google but not getting clear answers.

Thankyou in advance. X

Have you looked to see if there's a community facebook page?
Also this www.uklocalarea.com/index.php?q=Killamarsh+West&wc=17UJGU

It's an ex-colliery village between Chesterfield and Sheffield. Nice countryside, down to earth people, not posh but likely a solid sort of community. Rightmove should give you info on the schools.

NotMeNoNo · 17/05/2022 18:07

Sorry, to be clear, those comments based on the kind of place it is rather than personal knowledge of Killamarsh. There are a lot of ex-colliery villages and towns in the East Midlands. The Rother Valley country park right on the doorstep looks good.

Lovely village with great house prices and lovely countryside very close by along with Rother Valley C.P.

Only a few minutes drive from Crystal Peaks and Drakehouse along with Holbrook Retail park. Carries virtually everything you could want. (Apart from Waitrose and JL 😄)

Where in Killamarsh are you looking? Some areas are pretty upmarket now and a few the opposite. I have friends who live there and their house is gorgeous and ideally located!

Miylo · 17/05/2022 18:28

Thankyou for all your replies.
Rother Valley is what drove us towards the area as the lo loves waters ports.
@NotMeNoNo I'm not on Facebook😶@JadeSeahorse we are looking at Acacia Crescent its about a 6 min drive from Rother Valley. Do you know if this is the better or the worse end?
Any further information would be much appreciated.X

@Miylo I am sort of local. Feel free to pm if you want. I don't know it well but we'll enough if that makes sense

absolutlynot · 17/05/2022 18:34

It's not a bad place its got old mining village vibes which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing tbh 🤔.
Wales high school is a good school and think killamarsh is in the catchment area.
Got all the local little shops coop etc. it's about a 10 minute drive to Crystal peaks where there are loads more bigger shops and retail park.
You would not be far from Sheffield and also close to the Peak District.
I just found it a little insular one of those villages where everyone has grown up there and knows everyone but this was over 20 years ago.

JadeSeahorse · 17/05/2022 18:38

miylo that area should be absolutely fine! You won't be too far away from our friends. 👍
The not so nice areas are that locally known as "White City" and the main road area closer to Rother Valley but tbh even those parts seem to have hugely improved over the years.

From what I know I would say it would be a great choice. We are about 30 mins drive away ourselves, other side of Chesterfield.

MayorDusty · 17/05/2022 18:39

Where are you coming from?

Miylo · 17/05/2022 19:04

@Sleepeatrepeat many many thanks I will pm you.
@absolutlynot thankyou it good to know there's plenty of amenities close by. I'm sure the people will be lovely and welcoming.
@JadeSeahorse many thanks you have put my mind at rest knowing its the better part.
@MayorDusty I'm coming from the other side of Sheffield near Parsons Cross (not the best area I mean personally Ive not had any trouble however I did not research as much prior to moving and depended on good old Google hence don't want to make the same mistake twice iyswim) have only been in Sheffield a few years since relocating from Wolverhampton so not too familiar with further away areas in Sheffield.
Many Thanks to you all. X

All of Killamarsh is better than PX, it will feel like heaven wi't doer shut.
It's really improved over the last ten years, it was never anti social like Cross but there are a couple of poorer bits, a hang over from the industry days. Now it's pretty much all nice and some bits exceptional. The prices are so reasonable as others said having RV on the doorstep, Peaks a quick bus ride and tram to Sheff at peaks too you get a village with city transport links.
I'm close to RV and would definitely live in Killamarsh.

Miylo · 17/05/2022 19:16

@MayorDusty thankyou so so much. You actually made me laugh out loud. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. 🤗i think my minds made up now. No offence to PX but I just needed to know it is a better area without sounding snobby. Thankyou
