What colour of grout?

Tiler has been to do the splashback in white handmade-style tiles which looks great. He’s coming back tomorrow to finish the job.

We’ve picked and bought light grey grout for the job, but now the tiles are on and I’m looking at it with the (really quite intensely vieny) marble effect worktop, I’m worried it’ll look a bit of a plaster. DH doesn’t think it will.

Benefits of grey are that it’ll should be less hassle to keep clean- have grey grout in the bathrooms and love it for the showers etc.

What would you pick, grey or white?

White for me. I can't stand grey or black or whatever other colour grouts there are out there.

FirstFallopians · 17/05/2022 17:26

Grey- I’d worry about grease and food splashes staining the white

Littlemissprosecco · 17/05/2022 17:27

Definitely grey

DurhamDurham · 17/05/2022 17:30

Grey or black, definitely not white as it will discolour quickly. Plus black or grey will make the tiles 'pop' rather than blending into the grout.

Grey

Tinkletwat · 17/05/2022 17:36

White so you can bleach out the stains from cooking which will occur with whatever colour you choose.

CorsicaDreaming · 17/05/2022 17:53

Light grey, like Fresh Snowdrop

I would not go too dark grey - but white will look grubby v quickly and a splash of tomato sauce could stain.

Fresh snowdrop looks darker grey than it does here in real life, well it did on mine:

Grey. Especially in that area.

Alovelydayatlast · 17/05/2022 18:00

I have black grout. I am a cleaner and would never say have white. It is hideous to keep clean.
Grey op. Def grey.

Cervinia · 17/05/2022 18:36

Grey, no way on earth would I pick white grout for a splash back 🙈 - unless you never ever cook.

Cloud16 · 17/05/2022 18:40

Grey! White will be a nightmare to keep clean and will discolour quickly.

LoveSpringDaffs · 17/05/2022 18:42

From the link above, I'd go with the slate grey, I think it would pull all the events together & make the pattern if your tiles stand out.

your kitchen looks great! Where did you get your cabinets from?

Morechocmorechoc · 17/05/2022 18:51

Grey, you need contrast for it to look good.

SwelegantParty · 17/05/2022 18:54

Definitely grey - white would be a nightmare to keep clean. And the tiles would blend in with it too much.

Yes, this. Grey for the contrast.

SirChenjins · 17/05/2022 18:56

Light grey to make the tiles stand out and to pick out the grey in the marble

bassackwards · 17/05/2022 19:05

We recently installed white tiles on our kitchen wall like yours. Our designer insisted on white grout (fashionable) but the tiler (30+ years in the trade) persuaded us to go light grey for practical reasons. I still think white might have looked better but yeah I don't feel like spending my weekends bleaching the wall

Mosaic123 · 17/05/2022 19:11

Grey or dark grey.

White is so easy to stain.

An alternative is epoxy grout which doesn't stain.

However this is a more expensive product that needs to be installed by someone who is experienced in using it. You have to be very quick and good at cleaning up.

bravotango · 17/05/2022 19:13

Hot pink! Or grey as everyone else says. Not white behind a cooker!

Qwill · 17/05/2022 19:16

White, but then I’m all about the aesthetics over practically!!

gluenotsoup · 17/05/2022 19:18

Going against the grain - white, so it’s not too busy and the worktops stand out. Just keep it clean 😊

TheCraicDealer · 18/05/2022 21:46

Thank you for all your responses- DH was delighted the MN massive voted in favour of grey! That’s what we went with in the end, so I thought I’d show you all the fruits of your votes 😁thanks again!

@TheCraicDealer - it looks super OP, you must be so pleased with it and I think that's just the right shade of grey (who knew there could be so many?!)
Lovely tile job too.
