What's the best way to find a very rural hidden gem?

I'm looking to relocate and can go anywhere in the UK but I'm finding it so hard to discover the type of property I want. I'd love a detached house/cottage somewhere leafy/hilly in an out-of-the-way area. Preferably nestled in a very overgrown garden, with a distance between me & the next house. My principle 'want' in a new place is the outlook, so gardens and view. I can work with any style of building. Old auntie's neglected cottage would be fab. Rightmove doesn't allow you to search by outlook or garden/land. Is there another way to search rather than hiring a location agent?

Fine and Country specialist in country properties. You could go through their inventory.

If would also help if you could narrow down your target areas.

I think the best way to find a very hideen rural gem is to come on MN and give a load a people a good excuse to trawl for property porn in their area. This is my offering for Gwynedd

How rural are you talking? I grew up in the highlands and know people who live 15 miles down single track lanes
Or somewhere in say Lancashire where you have space, no direct neighbors and a nice outlook but you can drive to a town in 15/20 mins

15 miles down a track is probably a bit too far even for me...Grin

I love the houses with large outhouses, some great workshop potential there..

Personally I would rent in an area you’re considering moving to before you buy. We moved from the south to a rural village in the Lake District. We were so excited as it was the village we had spent our honeymoon in. We had loved it then and stayed there on holiday many years in a row. Thankfully we were renting as we totally hated living there. Rural villages and locations have their individual vibe just as cities do. We tried a couple of other villages in the area and found one we loved the other side of the motorway in the Eden Valley - we didn’t even know this area existed before we had moved up.

Some of these houses are just to die for!

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 13/05/2022 20:30

I’m looking for the same type of property but not quite ready yet.

TulipPpo · 13/05/2022 20:32

The house that got away for me was on Anglesea. It looked like it had been through a few changes over the years. It had mature gardens of about an acre and only 3 or 4 other houses nearby. Dripping with charm & character, but I wasn't ready when I saw it.

This one's not in budget but I thought it was worth posting for the gawp factor.

indecisivewoman81 · 13/05/2022 20:35

Wow @TulipPpo that has to be the most amazing location I have ever seen.
