Bebington Or Irby

Hi All,

I’m a full time mom and need some advise on where to purchase our upcoming home. We came to Liverpool for almost a year and we are searching for a permanent home. After visiting the area, Bebington and Irby in Wirral seems to be our most favourable choices for the time being.

We are a family of four, my husband and I, my mother in law (68) and a 10 months baby girl and we mainly base our selection criteria on safety, schooling and children facilities in the neighbourhood. We are considering to have a second child but only on planning stage. My husband is very flexible with his work so he can help care for the children or home chores. I haven’t got a driving licence (will apply shortly) and my mother in law (68) isn’t very keen to drive.

To sum up my question we wish to know more about these places from local residents’ perspectives. We wish to know about the good and bad, ugly and pretty side of things. At the moment we can only conclude both areas got decent primary schools. Irby seems like a very safe town with low crime rate but it’s also slightly rural with less public transport and fewer schedules. On the other hand, Bebington is more convenient but we heard neighbouring areas (Rock Ferry) can be quite rough. Can anyone please share your thoughts? Thank you!

Also, it would be nice to know which area holds up better on its property prices for the long term. Thanks again.

Hello so I'm pretty local to bebington. It's great for schools and the grammar schools are literally within walking distance within the whole area.
There's a good range of small restaurants and shops and you're only a small distance away from the Bromborough Croft Retail park which is on all the bus routes which has a large Asda, Lidl, Costa, next, M&S food, cinema, soft play, gyms, the range and plenty more plus free parking.

There's also lots of baby groups and toddler classes in the area.

Depending on the road it can vary on which town you're neighbouring. If it's spital then that's a peaceful quiet area but yes Rock Ferry and New Ferry are pretty rough.

Plenty of my friends growing up lived in bebington though and never had any problems.

I don't know an awful lot about Irby except it's a lovely part of the Wirral. The only thing is with there is that the public transport is nowhere near as good as bebington.

You also have the benefit of the Wirral train line running through bebington which will have you in Liverpool city centre jn 10 minutes or Chester in 25.

If it were me I’d choose Irby unless public transport was a deal breaker.
there aren’t really any ‘bad’ areas of Irby, you’d have to be more careful where exactly you bought in Bebington.
That said I don’t think you’d be making a mistake moving to beb, you just need to be more savvy about whereabouts/what streets.
