Front room red carpet and loft bathroom. Both have very stained floors but the ceilings look ok. pic here

Could it be oil or someone started a fire there?

whenwillthemadnessend · 05/05/2022 22:59

Jeezzz half a mil fir that!!!

Need damp proof tanking and floors redoing

ToastedWaffle · 05/05/2022 23:08

Off topic, but why is there a curtain over the oven??

Pixiedust1234 · 05/05/2022 23:27

I'm guessing there is no oven and its a mouldy space like you get behind washing machines sometimes. Its so weird how they have only half done things. Its like a simultaneous before and after. Surreal.

Google 'Winchester flooding'.

Dinoteeth · 06/05/2022 12:35

I think the poster who said horders house has probably got it right, esp when you view the video.

The weight of stuff could have caused issues with the internal wall.

I don't think it's ground water flooding, that wouldn't cause issues with the upstairs carpets.

The kitchen in is an extension so it has probably been fairly easy to empty and clean up, with a ton of bleach, the bathroom the same probably easy enough to clean.

Op I'd maybe view but would want a structural survey before commiting

emmathedilemma · 06/05/2022 13:43

The bathroom carpet appears to be the same and I assume that's upstairs so surely that's not rising damp? Wouldn't damp also start from the edge of the room?

Recaffe · 06/05/2022 13:52

It’s paint on the attic floor.

Lonelycrab · 06/05/2022 13:52

Winchester or not, that is a complete rip off. Will need to gut back to the brick and probably a new roof/timber I bet too, all that effort and hundreds of k and you’re left with a pretty pokey two bed terrace. Confused

user476t58 · 06/05/2022 20:01

Blimey, not much of a video is it... You don't get a good look at the bad bits or even the good really

You can see the old photos from 2017 on Rightmove and looks in ok condition. Also right next to a watercourse - my guess would be flooding.

richardhammondsgoatee · 07/05/2022 09:34

I think it looks like a rampant artist has been painting millions of canvases in impulse. My daughters carpet has a few (very small) patches like this. Obv I'm fuming but when she starts painting she can't think past what she's doing!

springtimeishereagain · 07/05/2022 09:39

A murder?! 😱

A structural survey should help.

3luckystars · 07/05/2022 09:48

Artist/hoarder but it has also been flooded.

if you look at the picture inside the front door it looks like the wood around the stairs was soaked and left for a long time.

It looks so damp too. Do you like it?

Made me laugh that the Property Description says that the garden ‘offers a mixture of mature boarders’ Grin

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 07/05/2022 10:20

It all looks lovely in the 2017 pictures so something very strange has happened in the last 5 years. Every part of the house and garden's gone downhill. I think the flood theory's probably right for the downstairs given the flash floods in Winchester in 2020, but what on earth's happened with that upstairs carpet? Possibly a hoarder and/or careless artist as pp have said. Or perhaps everything in the house was piled up in there while the house dried out and there were various leaks and stains as a result.

Best make sure it comes with vacant possession 😆

SolasAnla · 07/05/2022 11:07

Rising damp and or flood damage

The door step is almost covered by the water carrying soil packed against the front wall in pic 1

Pic 2 shows the floorboard edges which would be water saturated
And some of the other pictures show the paint blowout at the base of the walls.

Budget to replace the rotten wooden floors, plaster and electrics. Its a nice building site

whatsagoodusername · 07/05/2022 11:31

Hoarder who was then flooded?

SoosanCarter · 07/05/2022 13:35

It probably has an earth floor.

Herejustforthisone · 07/05/2022 14:06

It’s either:

• Someone did a bad murder.

• They liked to oil paint in the style of Pollock in every room in the house.

• The house is damp AF.

• It’s where the ectoplasm hit the carpets.

lljkk · 07/05/2022 14:38

Garden patio looks like water just channels into the house from garden. Very bad.

Lots of potential but needs work to resolve the damp problems.

Cornettoninja · 07/05/2022 14:45

I also think damp and either a hoarder or elderly person who couldn’t keep on top of cleaning. Those areas of carpet look ingrained to me.

it’s a sweet house but I’m not sure I would fancy taking it on, if it’s got to that condition with someone living there I would bet there’s a lot going on that the photos wouldn’t pick up.

Undecicive · 07/05/2022 14:53

As much as I like a project... don't buy this place. The wallpaper came off, they quickly refurbed the bathroom to cover issues.

AnneKipankitoo · 07/05/2022 17:53
