Plastic grass you have to hover. Anyone else agree?

I secretly quite like the idea of hoovering the lawn. Though I don't think I'd fancy astro. That tree would do my head in too.

ThereWillBeSnacks · 04/05/2022 21:11

I agree completely OP.

However, on MN it is not permitted to have a negative opinion about plastic grass unless you are a vegan, non-flying, non-driving, lentil-weaving, yoghurt-fermenting, off-grid environmental saint who never buys anything EVER and whittles the kids' Winter Solstice presents by hand. Otherwise you are an evil hypocrite.

Consider yourself warned Grin

She wants the council to trim a living tree because its blossom is falling on her plastic carpet 😆

Hawkins001 · 04/05/2022 21:14

I prefer natural. But plastic is easier to maintain.

This!

Nothing to add but 😂🤣

SeenCanary · 04/05/2022 21:22

Gross

Squealier · 04/05/2022 21:23

I think astroturf is vile

Long live the blossom tree!

Gardeningdream · 04/05/2022 21:24

Yes that’s quite unpleasant . It’s a multitude of sins, covering your garden in a layer of plastic, and wanting a tree cut down for no other reason than so it doesn’t mess up said plastic, and then hoovering it daily.

SpeedofaSloth · 04/05/2022 21:25

My garden is a bit messy but I like it that way, bugs and birds are entertaining when they make their home there and strawberries taste best when you are standing next to the plant. So as much as a garden to hoover is tempting, I prefer the blossom.

IcanandIwill · 04/05/2022 21:26

Loving the blossom tree! May it blossom for months on end!

Rickrollme · 04/05/2022 21:54

I hate AstroTurf too but we have a small London back garden and two football-mad children. By the time the kids were about four and six the grass had basically worn away and we had a lovely dirt pit, which turned into mud for days after a rain and made it impossible to spot dog and fox poo that needed to be picked up. Even five minutes in the garden would leave the kids covered in mud or worse. We planted different things with limited success but nothing could withstand the kids’ running around. We finally caved and got high-quality Astro, which is hideous but SO easy. Poo is easy to spot and pick up right away, any mess gets hosed off and it dries in 30 minutes even after a heavy rain. The kids generate half the amount or dirty laundry and my whole house is noticeably cleaner. We have lots of lovely planting in the front garden and when the children are older we will do that in the back too but for now practicality has won out and I do not regret it for a second.

SheilaWilde · 04/05/2022 22:07

You can't argue with stupid. Astro turf should be banned, along with concreting front gardens for cars.

Wintersgirl · 04/05/2022 22:15

I'd love to see the replies on that!

Gardeningdream · 04/05/2022 22:23

I think it should be banned also. It’s just so awful for the environment, it takes over four hundred years to degrade, I honestly can’t perceive how anyone can reconcile it. And that’s even before we mention the ecosystems it destroys for the duration it’s down.

Few of us have a low or non existent carbon foot print, but this is a whole other level of environmental damage.

what causes it, ignorance, stupidity, selfishness? Few people look at a roll of plastic pretend grass in someone’s garden and think awesome. Most will be polite but they will be thinking oh god.they have plastic grass, and up close it always looks like plastic fake grass.

is it more practical in some circumstances, of course, does this make it ok, of course not. Even the thought of being out there washing your plastic grass or hoovering it, is toe curlingly cringe.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 04/05/2022 22:26

How depressing that they don't see anything wrong with expecting a living tree to be cut so they don't have to vacuum their plastic grass.

AmbushedByCake1 · 04/05/2022 22:26

Wanting a tree cut back because she's annoyed about the blossom! Jesus, some people.

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 04/05/2022 22:27

It’s probably the static that makes you hover.

stuntbubbles · 04/05/2022 22:29

The temptation if you were her neighbour to give the blossom tree a good shake every time you were passing…

byvirtue · 04/05/2022 22:31

What a cretin, ignores the pollen and nectar the tree provides for the bees at this time of year or homes for birds. All in pursuit of perfect plastic grass. I shudder at how stupid and small minded some people are. God forbid nature gets too close to them!

Ylvamoon · 04/05/2022 22:33

For me, the biggest (un- answered) question is: Who has been there first? Tree or the Turf?
... and then take it from there!

CorsicaDreaming · 04/05/2022 22:55

That's an incredible amount of blossom if she's really getting that much every day...

[totally misses point of the thread]

ArtVandalay · 04/05/2022 22:56

AstroTurf is so naff. I’d be embarrassed to have it.

caringcarer · 04/05/2022 23:29

Astro turf is great for playing sports on but real grass in the garden every time.

You have articulated my thoughts exactly! Seriously. And blossom is lovely anyway - fallen on on the tree. Gardens are meant to look like your front room.

(And blossom is only on a tree for a few weeks of the year anyhow).
