Hello all,

FTB here how do you find a solicitor for buying a house?

The estate agent will recommend one. Or just look online for local solicitors. Worth getting a couple of quotes.

I went online and found a brilliant one who was really efficient and it showed through the reviews. They were also reasonable cost wise. The ones that my EA recommended were terrible (my buyer used them) so I was glad I did some research.

I would ask around if anyone you know has used a conveyancer recently, or I can recommend the ones I used as I think they will work across the country as most (if not all) things are done online or they sent me documents through the post to sign etc.

Be sure to use a local solicitor. The online ones are cheaper but often rubbish. They take on massive amounts of work, hence they are cheaper and can't keep up with it all so fob you off, blaming other people. That was my experience anyway! Using a local one also means you can hand deliver documents etc, which is really helpful if you need things to move quickly.

the EA had recommended some but wasn't sure if I should look elsewhere. Thanks all

Don't go for the cheapest one, just go for a recommended one (not the one recommended by the EA!)
