Dates units

Is this Shaker? There is no tongue and groove. This is just one section, obviously. It’s in good condition, quite solid. I think it looks very Noughties and dated, especially the black tiles and top. Can it be refreshed without replacing?

Paint it?

You could look at replacing the tiles and worktops and the cupboard handles, but I think it looks ok

New tiles
Paint cupboards
New handles
Wrap benches

Paddingtonthebear · 01/05/2022 17:43

Yes actually the handles could make a difference too. What would you go for?

We had a similar kitchen and had the cupboards spray painted green and wooden knobs put on. Looks much better. We left the granite worktops. Excuse the mess!

Easiest would be to replace the handles, worktop and tiles. Would look much more modern. You could paint the cupboards, it's not difficult, but lots more time consuming.

At first glance from that one photo it looks like the units are in decent enough condition. It's basically a shaker style door, but I agree with everyone else that the "modern" handles make it look weirdly dated.

Personally I'd paint the units (or pay someone else to paint them) and change the handles for something quite traditional. Nothing flashy, just timeless and functional and in keeping with the shaker aesthetic, as it won't look too obviously "new" and won't date badly. Simple round cupboard knobs and matching cup pulls for the drawers. Maybe something like this: www.toolstation.com/carlisle-brass-oxford-cup-pull/p59451

With some classic tiles and new worktops, it would look great IMO.

Apart from the handles, the black tiles seem really dated (90s?). As it stands, there's too much light wood, but the floor seems okay in itself so should look okay if the units are painted to contrast with it.
