If there is a shared water main, who is legally bound to pay if it was to be split? Thanks

I would assume that if you want it split then you have to pay to put new pipes in. Why would you want to split the supply? Is the pressure very low?

Shared with who? If it's a water main then generally, the water company will own it and be responsible for its maintenance. In the unusual scenario that it sits on private property, then potentially the property owner.

This is something the Water Authority could advise you on, maybe even supply you with a diagram.

Also, if you are buying the property this should have come up on the searches, so you need to speak to your solicitor.

It's an old semi detached ..we share the water pipe with next door neighbour. They have installed a pump which means if they run a tap we have no cold water at all. We had a quote from the water company pre covid for about 1K to split pipe from the main up to edge of our property..

Due to covid this was never done.
