Where is best to live: Heatons or Worsley

Hi sorry this is a bit niche but we are trying to decide between a home in Boothstown (Worsley) and Heaton Moor. We currently live near Didsbury so don't want to sacrifice the closeness to a village and having lots around us which I think both of these areas have. We would pay a lot more for Heatons due to its closeness to centre. We both work in the centre but only 1 or 2 days a week. We have a 2 year old and another baby on the way. I want to prioritise good schools and being in a safe area for families over closeness to work. Does anyone have any thoughts I'm completely torn between what to do. I've only lived in Manchester for last last 5 years so I don't feel I know enough about areas to make an informed decision.
Thanks

I wouldn't consider Boothstown at all. Agree with the comment about Trafford - look at Urmston, Sale (Altrincham is very expensive)

The problem with Worsley is nothing is handy without getting in the car. The shopping centre around Walkden is a bit grim. I can't really think what child attractions there are. There's no village feel as per Didsbury. I would vote for the Heatons (and that lovely little vintage cinema).

The Heatons are expensive. Have you looked at Marple & Marple Bridge? Train stations at Marple and Rose Hill

Thanks all! We had an offer on 2 houses in these areas which is why it was between those. There's very few houses at the minute I haven't seen anything in Trafford but probably outside our budget. The responses have been helpful though thank you.

Heatons - generally speaking (and you'd need to do your research for individual schools) Stockport (Heatons) does better than Salford (Worsley) for schooling. Agree with a pp about accessibility for Worsley (and traffic is a nightmare) and the local amenities (where the children would hang out when they're older). Would say the Heatons are much more family friendly.

Heatons definitely.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 26/04/2022 10:46

I used to live in Worsley and work in central. The connections aren’t great and the traffic can be awful getting home, especially around Christmas when you get stuck in the Trafford centre crowds!

JaneIsInsane · 26/04/2022 11:13

Definitely Heatons. We used to live up there when my kids were little. Stockport schools are better and you’re still very close to Didsbury. Boothstown is nowhere near as nice an area as the Heatons and I wouldn’t have wanted my children going to school there.

NatMoz · 26/04/2022 11:17

I would choose Heatons too, especially Heaton Moor. There's also Bramhall as an alternative consideration

NightmareSlashDelightful · 26/04/2022 11:22

I quite like Worsley, and Monton too. But in your circumstances I'd stick with the Heatons. (I lived in Dids myself many years back, still miss it!)
