(Or anyone else with the know how!)

I've spotted a local auction to me selling rads. I need to kit out 11 rooms with new rads and my plumber has the spec for sizes etc. he also has covid and I want to leave the poor chap alone for now.

Auction ends tomorrow so I'm hoping to measure up myself and try and sort a few in the auction.

I've tried to YouTube but I'd quite like direct advice.

So far, we have new pipes coming from the floorboard - 1st fix. Nothing else. How and what do I measure to ensure I get the correct size?

I'd be so grateful for some expert advice!

I'm no expert , but dh is a plumber but not here to ask . From hearing him talk ( will admit to not always listening ) isn't the boiler / radiator size relevant to size of house / rooms . So you wouldn't put a tiny rad in a big room or little in a big room. You can also get double rads which normally go in rooms used most i.e living room lounge .
Hopefully someone 100% in the know will advice.

if you have a newish boiler, it is pretty sure to be more than big enough

however the radiator size depends on heat loss from your house, so the insulation of the walls and windows, draughts, type of floor, is it open plan, are you in Penzance or Perth.

an experienced heating person can make a pretty good estimate just by lookinmg at the room.

did it have radiators before, and did it seem warm enough on cold frosty nights?

I prefer to use rads bigger than the calculators suggest, to warm the house faster from cold, and to get a more even heat from a wide radiator that's warm than from a small one that's roasting

If the pipes are alreadu positioned, I think your installer will not thank you for buying rads differe to his/her plan.

i have no way of knowing if your auction is of good undamaged stock from a good maker. Is there any guarantee?

I didn’t think @PigletJohn was around anymore.

obviously not!

Thanks @PigletJohn and everyone.
I've had a closer look at the auction and all the rads are massive. Definitely not an option for me to explore. I'll leave it.

Thanks anyway 👍
