Getting an answer from a mortgage lender on a particular type of properyy - how long did it take?

My broker applied for a mortgage with Barclays on my behalf and I got one in principle.

I have found somewhere I want to buy, offer accepted, etc, but there is a slight issue with it that my solicitor passed onto Barclays to see if they’ll still lend.

I have been waiting 3 weeks to see if Barclays will still give me the loan, and the sellers want to know if I’m a serious buyer or not.

Anyone else have anything similar? How long did it take to get an answer from Barclays or another bank on this sort of question?

We’re remortgaging on standard home but have been told it’s taking 8 weeks for the decision. They have 3 payslips for dh and I but today decided they want April’s for dh as he was paid yesterday. I can’t do anything as we’re currently abroad so have said it’ll be a week until we can access through the secure server on dh’s work laptop and that apparently will delay things. We’ve provided everything so why they want a fourth payslip is beyond me - no new job, same role for years. Literally couldn’t be more straightforward. So frustrating. The broker should be able to provide a timeline.

Our broker said it should only take a couple of days but that Barclays are very slow to deal with! So it’s only a couple of days if we’re very, very persistent. The problem is, it’s our conveyancer who went to Barclays for this issue with the house we’re buying so they’re the ones speaking to them and I’m not sure how good they are at being persistent. Our conveyancer hasn’t given us a time-frame and we feel a bit left in the dark.

Eight weeks! I feel like the sellers of the house we’re buying will drop us if it takes that long! They’re already threatening to!

Barclays are super slow at the moment, to the point where if they come up as best on our sourcing system there’s a collective wince in the office.

depending on what the issue is the broker should be able to communicate through the live chat people (but their responses are rarely correct imo) some brokers still have access to a BDM but most have been withdrawn.

there’s a solicitors direct phone number and your solicitor can access that to chase, or the broker can on the solicitors behalf.

There should also be SLAs published on the Barclays website and the people on the live chat should be able to give a steer of where you are in the queue for the question to be reviewed.

That’s really helpful, thank you!

How slow have they been for you in the past? Not as slow as 8 weeks I hope?! 😬

Not 8 weeks but we (as the broker) spent hours chasing. Your broker needs to earn the fee you’re paying and get on the phone.
