Gas meter

Like most of the country I tried to take energy meter readings at end of March.

ekectricity was fine, but the lcd display on the gas meter has gone.

I contacted them that day to let them know.

they contacted me a few days later to let me know there’s no availability for smart meters right now but will be back in contact later. Haven’t heard anything yet.

I understand if I reported it faulty as in billing incorrectly certain time limits apply, but do they in this case?

how can they know how much gas we are using? We’ve massively cut back but Im worried they will bill on historic usage.

any ideas?

Certainly I can't understand why you would only take one reading a year, especially as the rise in energy prices has been all over the news for such a long time?

I think you need to speak directly with your supplier (when you can get in touch that is!) and see what they will do. If nothing else they will base your usage on previous years (which as you say may not be in your favour).
It is quite possible that although the display has gone U/S they can still download the data.

I don’t only take one a year. But my last one was in oct, since then I have had a new more efficient boiler installed

Following as we have exactly the same issue. They were meant to come out yesterday to check and fix the issue and didn't bother. I really don't have the time to contact them again so i am not going to bother.
