What have you got hanging on your stairs wall?

I've just finished painting my hallway, stairs and landing. All white. It's had so many coats I've lost count. It's taken 4.5 years I've stripping 3 layers of wallpaper, scrapping polystyrene tiles off ceiling, sanding, filling and sanding again, then painting over a bright 70s orange. It's taken so long as, to be frank, I'm so shit at it! Plus so busy as a single parent and working full-time.

Anyway. It's not quite done. I need to paint the woodwork again. But it looks fresh and clean. For now.

But I need some ideas as to what to hang on the double height wall. In the past, I've put family pictures. Which I've got no issue with doing again, but I'm thinking something a bit bigger. to distract from the rubbish job I've done if I'm being honest

Ours is covered in picture frames. Most have family pics in but some have special gig tickets, some have posters or just things we've picked up that mean something to us a family. DS has also painted a number of small canvases (he's 5) which we've hung up to.

Basically, it's really cluttered but hides the indents of the old wallpaper really well!

When I had a stairwell like that as a student I put a big paper kite in it (hung with fishing line)

I have a 2m length of kente fabric bought in West Africa many years ago mounted onto a board and hung on one wall to break up the whiteness. But it could be any batik or tapestry that appeals to you. It needs to be big.

At the bottom is a picture painted by a relative. At the top on the landing there's a mirror. All the way up there appear to be handprints awaiting the attention of someone with a damp cloth Grin

This is always a tricky one, the hallway is a pain to decorate and is the first to get scuffed, difficult to hang things at height over the stairs and the floor is always in need of a clean (two dogs..). I love a really well thought out hall, it's one of the things I really check out in a house. My hallway and staircase really are in need of doing over after 10 years. The magic sponges have kept the paintwork in OK condition but it's all looking tired and chipped. Your white walls sound lovely. I've gone off the blue in mine. It's so dreary. Anyone want to share pics of their fabulous hallway? I love the kite idea, that sounds brilliant. My sympathies OP. Maybe a bit of lower wall area painted with blackboard paint?

So great ideas, thank you. I've had the handprints going up Grin I was looking for a different idea this time Wink.

Do tapestries, kites etc become difficult to clean? This particular house seems so bloody dusty. I'm forever vacuuming! And no, I'm not clean obsessed -i wish!
I do like the idea of a wall of memories too. I need to spend some time planning. Thanks everyone Cake
