Redlining

Does any one know what it means when an Estate agent says"we are redlining viewings" means.
I am house hunting and trying to get an appt to view is proving difficult.
Demand exceeds supply where I am wanting to relocate to.
I am in a fairly good position, under offer to buyers with no related sale and I don't need a mortgage.

Strongly indicates the estate agent is a dick - beyond that I don’t know

Redlining is a term from the audio world and especially DJing, where music is played at maximum input levels causing meters on the equipment to go red.

@Housebuyingfamily Thanks for that but I don't think its helpful in explaining the meaning in context of an Estate agent saying "we are redlining viewings"

Did they decline you a viewing?

Sounds like they have already exceed capacity of viewings as redlining means to take a dial to the red section eg on a car rev dial or as pp said. It means pushed to the limit.

Although also probably not the answer you were looking for as not heard it used in this context. What was the rest of the sentence?

@cherrypiepie
When I asked for an appt to view the EA said "we are redlining viewings " will try and sort it out and get back to you."
I think it may mean restricting viewings for certain reasons.
So I will have to wait and see.
Demand is exceeding supply , it's a bank holiday and busy where I am looking and the house has issues so they may be being selective about who can view.

Redlining also means where you mark up construction drawings to show changes that have happened in the build. Not that it makes any sense in this context!!

Hopefullymovingfinally · 18/04/2022 07:49

Red lining is crossing out/editing

Presume they are paring down the viewing list

NewJobPerhaps · 18/04/2022 07:52

I would say it means they’re restricting viewings after a certain number. Register interest with the EA’s, tell them your position. If you’re in a genuinely strong position keep calling so they remember you, you’ll be given priority for viewings.

NewJobPerhaps · 18/04/2022 07:54

Not needing a mortgage is not always a positive for EA’s. Mortgage applications are a way of measuring commitment, I.e. paying for survey fee, etc. a cash buyer is not always a good thing.

We had this - weren't allowed to book a viewing as they already had it 'fully booked' for viewings and presumably knew it would sell from those. It went SSTC within days. Then reappeared on RM 3 months later!

I immediately thought of the US definition - I really really hope that's not what's happening here though:

In the United States, redlining is a discriminatory practice in which services are withheld from potential customers who reside in neighborhoods classified as 'hazardous' to investment; these neighborhoods have significant numbers of racial and ethnic minorities, and low-income residents.
