Need to make quick decision on Utility Room splashback - Help!

DH has unilaterally booked someone in to decorate the utility room and I've got a day or so to decide on materials.

At the moment we have a wooden worktop which will be tidied up/oiled etc. Between the Butler sink and window-sill above it we have some tiles. They're cute-ish in a rather 80s way but they probably have to go.

I do my handwashing in this sink. Not sure whether we need a splashback at all and if we do, not sure what it should be material wise. I dont think in his unilateral booking of the decorator that he's agreed for the whole length of wall to be splashbacked/tiled so it would just be the area between sink and window.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I have wallpaper in my downstairs loo and instead of tiles above the sink I got custom said sized plexiglass with two screw holes for fixing - cost about £10 online. However if yours is tiled now the decorator will have to make good before it can be painted and that may cost more in time rather than just retiling.
