Where are these planes coming from?

Hello, sorry for the noob question. Recently with the pandemic over I start to see planes flying through my area. They look as if they were just flying over the my neighbours' houses. But the thing is I can't work out where they could come from. There is no nearby airport and when I check Flightradar24 the nearest planes are about 2 miles away when I see them (for example, I live in Bermondsey and the nearest plane flew over Camberwell).

Any idea where they could be coming from? Easter Confused

Light aircraft? Not all light aircraft have the equipment that is picked up by flightradar.

I guess they will be on the approach to Heathrow? I live in inner SE London and get plane noise from 5am every morning.

Have a look on Flight Radar - find your area on the map and it will show what planes are going over:

Are you actually in Bermondsey? Quite hard to fly around there as there are so many no-fly zones! So perhaps military?

Flight radar has a bit of a delay for obvious reasons.

What sort of planes?
Are they executive jets avoiding the hoi polloi.

KeyErro · 15/04/2022 11:30

You're close to London City Airport.

Svalberg · 15/04/2022 11:36

Planes that are 2 miles away look pretty close.

adsbexchange.com shows more planes than flightradar24 The planes on approach to London City are pretty low over Waterloo on Easterlies

No clue. They look small and fly very low as I can see them clearly.

Really? I didn't realise you can see planes so far away. They look so close!

2 miles away is relatively close..

I'd second the thoughts that you are seeing traffic going into Heathrow (when they are landing to the west) or London City.

it's not likely to be anything else over that part of the world fixed wing light aircraft are very much restricted/forbidden from flying over central London, as are single engined helicopters..
