Is this the tiniest kitchen ever?

Who designed that then? Someone who doesn't eat at home, I guess.

Nowhere near the tiniest! In one place, I had a baby belling mini-cooker on top of a fridge and a sink beside it with cupboard above and below. That was it. This one looks like it'll fit everything except the washer which can go in the garage, along with a freezer if needs be. No probs.

Also a very handy layout if you need to pop for a quick poo in the middle of cooking tea :)

That loo is also superbly placed if you have a baby/young toddler. So easy to pop to.

I loved it when my dd was small and the bathroom was off the kitchen diner (victorian house), it was so convenient.

It’s not the smallest kitchen I have seen or had to use.

The house itself is soulless. I half expected the upstairs to be completely open plan too.

hellcatspangle · 12/04/2022 11:32

I had a kitchen a similar size but had a utility room for the freezer/washing machine etc so it worked fine. I really don't like the toilet opening into the kitchen though, I didn't think building regs allowed?

I think people are missing the bigger picture with this thread.
No it's not the tiniest kitchen I've seen, ive seen much smaller in fmats, older houses and student digs.
But it's tiny FOR A NEW BUILD FAMILY HOME and perfectly represents the greed of developers.
Why add a few feet of extra space, or a tiny porch to provide somewhere to hang coats - when doing so would be SO easy - if it will eat into your massive profits?
Everything is such a race to the bottom in this country.

It’s not a new build though. At least 30 years old but recently ‘modernised’.
123feraverto · 12/04/2022 15:25

More or less the same size as my current kitchen

Definitely too small , hardly any storage space especially if you like kitchen gadgets

Organictangerine · 12/04/2022 15:27

I’ve seen smaller but 360k for that! Why would anyone spend that much on a cramped box?!

That house wasn’t built like that. A previous owner has ripped out the ground floor walls to conform with current fad for open plan. I’m surprised they didn’t paint the outside grey while they were at it.

They are probably moving because it’s too drafty, noisy and the pong from the loo pervades the whole living space.

TheCanyon · 12/04/2022 15:48

Much smaller kitchens in a lot of tenement flats.

PzRebel · 12/04/2022 15:59

It's a small kitchen for a 3-bed house in the UK that's worth over 350. But at least it's nice and new and not grotty or falling to bits.

So many people deal with kitchens much, much smaller than that. I bet there are people reading Mumsnet feeling bad about their kitchen now.

MimosaFields · 12/04/2022 16:34

My kitchen is similar and I paid £400K for my 2-bed flat. Not everyone lives in cheaper areas or houses!

kel91 · 12/04/2022 19:52

Tiny kitchen haha but cute

Stunning home xx

SushiGo · 12/04/2022 19:56

It's really not that bad. Our old one was probably similar size. We cooked family meals in it every day.

purplepaintedpineapple · 12/04/2022 20:03

My first kitchen was 6x8ft and had a back door and door to hall plus a larder in the corner so I only had 2 x 1m units - one had sink in and WM under and a very small oven...

Yeh but this is a 3 bed house with space that has clearly been renovated to sell.. not a 2 bed flat. It's a travesty.
SushiGo · 12/04/2022 20:22

Our small kitchen home was also 90s built - honestly, I think they were built that way in the expectation that they would be the first rung in a property ladder - not long term homes for families with older children. In reality, there were lots of families living on our street with teenagers in tiny box rooms (which is much more of a problem), because they couldn't afford to move on.

Another consequence of house prices outstripping salaries.

catfunk · 12/04/2022 20:27

Where would you keep all of your kitchen stuff ? My tiny 2 bed has a bigger kitchen than that. No units or shelves on the top either....

I'd make the downstairs loo a utility for washer/ dryer with storage - or maybe a pantry -wouldn't want a toilet in such a small living space anyway.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 20:38

Mines the same side but an actual room!

The toilet bothers me more than that kitchen.

mjf981 · 12/04/2022 22:51

I actually like it. If I was single, that’s house would do me fine. Love an open plan in a smaller house.

LoveSpringDaffs · 13/04/2022 06:14

@SirChenjins

That’s a developer skimping on kitchen units - and for that price they should be ashamed of themselves (but they won’t be, because people will buy the house and then spend more money adding to it).
Around here that would be around £450000. It's all relative. There's no space for more unit unless you want them in the lounge!
gunnersgold · 13/04/2022 06:31

It's not that small because it's open plan !

The loo next to eating is a bit gross though .

SirChenjins · 13/04/2022 08:33

Yes there are - eg you could put units round
the wall (next to the cloakroom), put wall units next to the extractor fan, extend out losing the overhand (breakfast bar?), and then wrap back. It’s perfectly possible to add more cupboard space there - but it comes down to cost obviously. It’s all moot though, because I hadn’t seen it’s not a new build - although I guess it could have been a Homes Under the Hammer type development where they do things as cheaply as possible for as big a profit as possible.

SirChenjins · 13/04/2022 08:33
  • not on the cloakroom side, the kitchen side of the cloakroom wall iykwim
waterlego · 13/04/2022 08:37

Yes, I’m sure we’ve all seen kitchens like this (and smaller) in flats or studios but this is a 3 bed detached house so this kitchen really isn’t in keeping with the house.
