Who designed that then? Someone who doesn't eat at home, I guess.

That's bigger than my council flat kitchen!

DaisyWaldron · 12/04/2022 06:53

My dad's kitchen in his London flat is far smaller than that, and a fairly typical day for him consists of ambling down to Borough Market, buying an interesting fish/piece of meat/vegetable and taking it home to turn into a fabulous gourmet meal.

Fitterbyfifty · 12/04/2022 06:53

It's bigger than mine and I cook a lot! Would hate to have the loo there though.

InkySquid · 12/04/2022 07:02

You've led a sheltered life if you consider that kitchen to be tiny

autienotnaughty · 12/04/2022 07:12

It's open plan so guess fridge freezer or washer could go into dining area. V small tho and toilet next to itConfused the price is the most shocking would be no where near that where I live!!

ilovemyelectriccar · 12/04/2022 07:30

We looked at a house when we were living in Switzerland, it was a four bedroom house and the kitchen was half the size of that! The house we ended up in had a kitchen which was smaller than the one shown. It was a pain.

scandihouse · 12/04/2022 07:31

Definitely not, I've lived in houses with far smaller kitchens.

Harridan1981 · 12/04/2022 07:33

Our old kitchen was that size 😂 plus a kind of pantry cupboard that had every inch of space utilised. We cooked every meal at home from scratch including Christmas lunch etc.

Our loo wasn't there though.

PeanuttyButter · 12/04/2022 07:34

Think my kitchen may be smaller..also a 3 bedroom detached. Least it's open to the dining area too.

User843976 · 12/04/2022 07:36

It's not that small just badly designed. You wouldn't perch at that bit for the stools because the living space is suitable for a table and you wouldn't have both in that limited area, the perching area is not big enough for family meal so you would need a table anyway

Octomore · 12/04/2022 07:37

Agree with this

In our tiny 75m2 stone cottage, the 3.25 X 3m kitchen is big enough for all the appliances and a small table. It is also open plan off the living room, and our only (downstairs) bathroom is directly off the living room, as is the front door.

We cope just fine with it, as a family of 3 +dog.

It also happens to be on the side of a mountain, in a UNESCO world heritage side and 1/4 mile from a national park boundary. So we won't be moving to get a bigger, Mumsnet approved kitchen.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/04/2022 07:45

That wall needs to go back up between kitchen/diner and front room.

I love a bit of open plan but that’s ridiculous!

hiyageorgie42 · 12/04/2022 07:48

Don't see the issue really. It's a small kitchen area surrounded by a massive dining room so your table and other storage could go on that side. Even your washer could go on the other side of the kitchen units if needed. Not ideal but certainly nothing shockingly bad about it. There are some real house snobs on MN...

Itsbackagain · 12/04/2022 08:21

Theres an oven, hibiscus, fridge, sink and washing machine - what more do you actually need? Sometimes the less room.the more organised.

MrOllivander · 12/04/2022 08:26

@MaryStuart

Op, have you never lived in a flat?! I rented one flat that had about a quarter less useable worktop space than that kitchen. I don’t actually think that kitchen is that bad at all. Room for a table and chairs to the right of it. As PPs have said, the downstairs loo, on the other hand…..
My apartment has a big kitchen! It's a U shape so this is one side of it

SirChenjins · 12/04/2022 08:27

That’s a developer skimping on kitchen units - and for that price they should be ashamed of themselves (but they won’t be, because people will buy the house and then spend more money adding to it).

FloBot7 · 12/04/2022 08:45

It's a very small kitchen for a house of that size and price. Yes I've had smaller but that was in a tiny flat in a city centre. My house is a similar size and the kitchen is bigger. We had to compromise by not having a dining room but that's a compromise I was happy to make.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/04/2022 08:55

The kitchen in my first house, a 3 bed semi, was much smaller than that and one of my friends had a smaller kitchen than mine! We have both now moved to houses with much bigger kitchens.

Crucible · 12/04/2022 08:58

It's not that small but it is in comparison to the rest of the space. The loo would annoy me more, very public! I'd add an enormous Welsh dresser for extra storage.

sqirrelfriends · 12/04/2022 09:11

I had smaller. It had one cupboard for food (lower cupboards had oven, dishwasher, under sink and washing machine in) and we had to put pots, pans and crockery in the hall cupboard as there wasn't room in the kitchen.

DappledShade · 12/04/2022 09:25

I've seen smaller and previously had a similar size, it was never a problem for me despite loving doing a lot of home cooking and baking. Large kitchens are fashionable, but not actually necessary.

FloBot7 · 12/04/2022 09:35

I love to cook and would love a bigger kitchen! Preparing meals would be a lot less stressful with more space.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/04/2022 09:41

Looks large to me. But I lived in a council flat where 60cm of worktop on top of the washing machine and a single wall cupboard was all that was needed to make it fit for up to five unrelated adults (over crowding rules), never mind two adults and two children.

NormalForNuneaton · 12/04/2022 09:48

I've seen smaller!

When DD was looking for a student rental (for 4 people including her) there was one that had a kitchen with a sink unit, cooker and fridge and that was it! It had 3 doors into it so no wall space either.

The only cupboard space was the one under the sink and the only worktop space was over the fridge. FOR A 4 BED HOUSE!

The current tenants had some shelves in the hallway that you had to squeeze past to get to the kitchen
