Malvern range at next vs cotswold co

Hi all - need to get a tv stand and a cupboard or shelving unit for toys / general living room crap. I love the look of the malvern range at next and everything at cotswold company, especially the Chester stone range, but only based on online research as we have not got any show rooms near us. There is a big price difference and was wondering if anyone had bought anything from either range recently and had feedback? Thank you!

Hi haven’t bought anything yet, but have visited a few Cotswold Co stores and the furniture is really solid and in my opinion worth the price, the next step up would be Neptune….. I can dream! Haven’t seen any of the the Next Malvern range in person though so can’t comment on that

My next door neighbour has a Cotswold Co hidden desk/console table. With his permission I had a good look at it and it's solid. By contrast I looked at the Malvern range in Next and it is cheap and flimsy. The Laura Ashley range is better.

DappledShade · 11/04/2022 16:20

Have you looked at The Furniture Market? Slightly cheaper than Cotswold Co general, but similar stuff and non flatpack furniture (think Malvern needs assembling?). Their service is really good too. Some of the Next stuff is nice, but expensive for what it is in my opinion.

I bought from Cotswold Co. Took four attempts before getting a product without damage, and they ripped my flooring when sliding a unit instead of carrying it.

They compensated for the floor, but only after a fair amount of escalation.

I have the Malvern tv unit and tall bookshelf. It does the job perfectly well but the price is reflective of what you get - it's isn't heavy, will-last-forever type of furniture but is perfectly adequate and (I think) it looks really nice (we have the dove grey).

This is really helpful guys thank you - review sites do suggest cc quality excellent when properly maintained but service tricky… so this all fits

Ive got a few Cotswold pieces from the Chantilly range. Good quality, ready assembled and delivered to room of choice. Came with a choice of two knobs, so you can change them if you wish. Loads of bloody packaging to get rid of afterwards but items came in great condition.

Far better quality than Next furniture.

kerkyra · 11/04/2022 18:16

I also have the cotswold chantilly range in my bedroom and four years later it still looks brand new.Even my bedside table has no marks on the top,yet my sons have m&s furniture and it really isn't half as good.

Cotswold is pricey but well worth it I think.

@DappledShade i missed your message yesterday - the furniture market stuff looks great! Dont suppose you got any of the painted items did you? Main two questions are quality and ability to look ok after a while in a house with two fairly lively kids…

That's ok Smile Yes we did, we got some of the grey painted for one room then later some of the blue ones for a different room. My mum and dad have also become fans and have some of the white bedroom furniture - I should be on commission I think. The grey is about 4 years old now and looks as new I would say, even with our toddler and the occasional dog visitor. We used the service where they take all the packaging away which was handy.

Notquitemanaging · 12/04/2022 14:34

Going for it! Thanks so much - what a find!

Next furniture isn’t really any better than what you’d get from Wilko online or other budget places. Their colours might be a bit more ‘now’ but the quality is poor…..disposable furniture really, in that it might last 5 years and would struggle with a move.

What about looking on eBay? You can often find specific furniture items there and for a fraction of the new price. It’s good too to get behind the regular replacement if furniture which really ought to be lasting 20-30 years or more rather than being replaced every 5-10.

RidingMyBike · 12/04/2022 15:37

We have a Cotswold Co shoe bench and have been really pleased with how solid it is - v well made, arrived well packaged and the delivery men were very helpful. It has coped absolutely fine with a house move.

Had a look at some of the Next stuff in store and thought it was rather flimsy for the price they were charging. I doubt it would survive much use or moving house.

Sadnesser · 12/04/2022 15:42

I have Cotswold co bedroom furniture and a grey painted show cupboard in the hall. I’ve not been impressed at all to be honest. My stuff from oak furniture land is a lot better.

Roseland sell other brands, I've just had a look on their websit and recognise quite a few of the pieces so each range will vary in quality. There is some stuff that looks like Annaghmore which will be very good quality but other stuff that will be cheaper
