Continuous carpet for stair/hallway or laminate?

Just bought a house yay!! Now doing it up.

We're putting laminate on the right (living room) and left (kitchen). Would you keep the carpet in the mini hallway bit or do laminate throughout?

Also this carpet is a bit old (bit black near skirting) but not horrible. Do you think it can be saved with steam cleaning or should we just replace?

If the carpet feels like it’s got decent underlay still try to save it by getting cleaned professionally. You might be surprised 😊

So do you come in the front door onto carpet ? I would run through the wood or wood effect if it's downstairs. Laminate can be very shiny so pick something natural looking.

I prefer carpet up the stairs and in upstairs halls as safer and less noisy.

We're making bottom entire floor (entrance, hallway, utility and office) laminate. The carpet would start on the stairs (could potentially make stairs laminate but I think people suggest noise reduction of carpet is better). Then that image is 1st floor (kitchen left, living room right, both will be laminate wood effect). Top floor bedrooms carpet.

Any more thoughts? Still haven't been able to make a decision!

I'd say keep the carpet if it's in OK condition.

We're in a townhouse so it's the first floor.

I'd definitely keep the carpet then. If it was actually the hallway where you were coming and going all of the time it might get dirty but as it's on the landing carpet will be absolutely fine.

Laminate in the the two first floor rooms but carpet on the stairs and landing (from similar experience).
