How to make this plug safe?

I have this disused plug socket which I want to hide. There used to be a socket here but I think it is no longer is live (last time I used it it shorted the circuit). How do I make this safe without electrocuting myself?

If you don't know what you are doing, call in an electrician and leave this wiring to an expert.

I am looking at it, and I think it looks like the internal parts od a 13A socket after the front has been smashed off.

It is not at all safe

It would be simpler and safer to replace with new, than to safely isolate it, unless, by chance, the cable comes through the wall behind it and can be drawn back and removed.

if it is in a position where it is liable to be hammered by the hoover or something, it could be raised to a more sensible height.

If that's an exposed earth cable you need to get that sorted ASAP.

This is not a DIY job. Yiu clearly don't know what you are doing so get in an electrician.
