The most stressful part about moving is waiting on exchange?!

I’ve decided that the worst part about moving is waiting to exchange (and complete). It’s absolutely maddeningly stressful! Anyone else feel the same?

Our sale has had a lot of delays (and we lost a buyer before this one) and every day I keep thinking “perhaps today will be the day of exchange”… and it never is!

Any tips on how to keep calm during this bit will be much appreciated!

I can't give you any tips (apart from drinking more wine!) because I was soooooo very stressed during the same period, but, despite all the ups and downs (and there were very many), it did actually happen..... eventually.

Good luck!

You are sooo right! I am myself waiting to exchange and it's painful.
It doesn't help the complete lack of info from our solicitor. I called on Monday to ask for an update and she promised to call me back shortly. She never did. I left a message for her yesterday and again today. Nothing. Always busy in other calls.
I actually have also a couple of very relevant questions to ask. She doesn't even reply to emails.
I only got some paperwork in the mail, with no comments and just instructions as 'sign here'. That's it. Even the searches were sent without any comments. Is this normal? I mean, isn't your solicitor supposed to advice you a little on what good looks like?
At this point I guess I would be happy to just hear she's working on my case at all!

I'm in that position too and it's awful! We thought everything was good to go and had been told as much only to find that there are actually enquiries still outstanding!! I have found out what they are and got on the case myself and already sorted one in under 24 hours!
I'm never doing this again!!

This sounds a lot like my solicitor too! When I do finally get a reply it usually answers one question and ignores the two others in the email completely! Also got sent search results without other comments, just told to read through it and to let her know if I had any concerns. When i got the land registry forms she did make me aware of the covenants though, so I think they only seem to let you know if they spot a problem! I think the most stressful part about moving is communicating with solicitors! :P

It’s reassuring to hear I’m not alone but I’m sorry to hear so many are stressed by this process too!!

I am the same - my solicitor is so hard to communicate with and get an answer on anything from. I can’t actually believe how stressful it all is!

My son has recently exchanged with completion on notice. He has already had the date pushed back a month after 2 days .. he is losing it and I can't say I blame him.

Fluffyfluff88 · 07/04/2022 20:06

I think it’s the lack of certainty and the total lack of control that’s driving me crazy!

We’re in the same boat! Still some little bits outstanding which we’re getting sorted this week and then it’s just a waiting game! Just so stressful!

beguilingeyes · 08/04/2022 07:03

I nearly had a breakdown waiting for mine. The solicitors kept saying it was 'imminent' (what does that even mean!) and then went on holiday.
The most stressful thing ever.

Fluffyfluff88 · 08/04/2022 08:54

I think having an expected date that all parties agree on, and then it doesn’t happen and you’re left thinking “well, how about today then?” And that then goes on for more than a month!

It’s maddening. I’m sure the process doesn’t need to be like this.
