LLs selling :(

Hello,

Having a bad teary day. And just been given the news our LLs want to sell the house we are renting. Been here 4 years Sad dc amazing nursery nearby and my commute is great. Feeling so disappointed but of course as LLs it's their property to sell if they like, but as tenants it's been our home and just feel really shitty. The EA wants to arrange viewings this weekend?! Which is insane and will refuse. Where do we stand? Can we negotiate with them to allow us to find something? We've been really good tenants. The place is immaculate and we've really cared for it as our own. EA mentioned we would have two months notice which is nothing really. We have dipped our toes in to buying something but we are in a crazy sellers market in the south east (hence why the LLs want to sell now!). We haven't got anywhere with that yet. Perhaps we need to rent in the interim? It probably sounds really obvious and silly but just looking for some advice/sympathy Sad thank you!

Is there a way you can buy the property?

housenotice · 05/04/2022 18:59

@mumof3anddog22 yeah that would have been something we would have done but actually, we've decided on another area which is closer to my family now. We've loved living here but I have felt cut off from them with a lockdown baby. We want to prioritise being as close to them as possible, I think. I just didn't think we'd be pushed into making the change so soon!

It is a horrible feeling and the worst thing about renting. I cry every time I get the news, especially as someone who likes to put down roots and considers each place my home. The one thing I have found though is that each time it has actually worked out for the best/ ended up with a better place etc. But doesn't stop me hating the process and the stress of finding a new place at short notice! So sending you hugs and sympathy, hopefully this may bring you nearer your family and end up a great move

hope you find your next home soon!

It’s a horrid situation. It’s happened to use twice in the last three years.

I believe you don't have to entertain any viewings at all if you don't want to. You might want to if you are feeling accommodating.
Are they selling with vacant possession or with you as tenants?
Also check that they've served you the correct notice and used the right forms/words - shelter website is a good place to start.

housenotice · 06/04/2022 17:59

@Forestdweller11 yes we will allow viewings as we don't want to be unreasonable but have refused their request of this weekend(!) and the next. EA said they are listing the house this week so moving extremely fast. Not sure whether they'll allow us to stay until they are ready to complete with their new owners? We will have to ask. Pretty sure they want to sell as vacant possession though. Got my head together moreso today and planning somewhere to rent closeby and then continue to buy. Given me the determination to own though as the lack of security is really a concern. Thank you - will check it out.
