Is this a reasonable quote for packing and moving (from London to just outside London)

3 bedroom flat, ground floor to ground floor, going about 30 miles. Total £918 (which includes VAT).

I do need to get other quotes, but just haven’t yet!

That sounds really cheap if it definitely includes packing? We were quoted 2.5k for packing & moving our 4 bed house, and we're up north! Ended up going with someone a bit more 'earthy' & paid £900 for the same service. They were excellent and I'm really glad we went with then.

Oh that’s good!!

It might be because we’re in a ground floor flat - and not moving a sofa or wardrobes because we’re selling them (and replacing when we move)?

We’re also moving everything back to the ground floor (even though not moving to another flat, but doing work first so it’s going from ground to ground). Perhaps that’s why it’s the price it is!

I worried it might be too expensive!

That seems really reasonable to me. We'll likely be paying £2.5k for packing and moving a 4 bedroom house to another in the same town.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 05/04/2022 21:08

That seems quite cheap. I live outside of London and paid around £500. This did not include packing or unpacking either

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 05/04/2022 21:09

And we only moved around the corner!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/04/2022 21:10

That sounds really cheap

I am about to make a similar move but in reverse. Three bed, Home Counties to an upper floor flat in zone one. Quotes for the move without any packing have ranged between £700 to £900, so from my findings, I would say that is pretty good quote.

Mosaic123 · 05/04/2022 21:16

So cheap.

Starseeking · 05/04/2022 21:17

That sounds extremely cheap.

I moved a 3 bed house from just outside London to a storage facility in London (while waiting to complete on new house).

Moving once and unloading to storage was £800, cash in hand, £850 for bank transfer. It would have cost us another £500 to pack and unpack so had to say no as my EXDP was tight and wouldn't agree to it (despite the fact it was me paying!).

Starseeking · 05/04/2022 21:18

Double check they have insurance in case anything goes wrong.

Sprig1 · 05/04/2022 21:19

Too cheap.

TabithaHazel · 05/04/2022 21:32

That's very cheap! We moved from a 3 bed flat to a house just a mile up the road and it cost £2.5k including packing! We did have a lot of stuff though including furniture and white goods.

Porridgeislife · 05/04/2022 21:41

Extremely cheap. We’re getting quotes currently for a 3 bed house including packing moving 20 miles & they’re about £2.5k - Home Counties.

Movingmoving123 · 05/04/2022 22:07

Oh wow ok!

I was recommended this company and they seem to have plenty of positive reviews. I will check if they have insurance though!

We don’t have white goods and we don’t have an enormous amount of furniture, and no unpacking the other end. I wonder if that kept the quote on the low end?

At that price , if they haven’t got insurance I’d be getting it for them 🤣!!

I moved recently and they all seem to do quotes based on amount of stuff, and also having to go up stairs. So maybe that's why everyone is saying your quote is cheap. You don't have much stuff and you're ground to ground, hence lower price. Have you estimated your amount of stuff correctly though?
Sonofbarney · 06/04/2022 03:01

That sounds very cheap, do they lob everything through the front door?

They did a zoom call where they assessed what we had.
