Am I missing a trick re doors? I need to buy about 17 doors - want them fairly cottagey and rustic looking - but they're so flipping expensive! Yes, I'm looking at oak, but blimey, the cost it nuts!

we went for oak veneered and they were around £150 each

I was really hoping to get cheaper. I quite like the rustic look but don't have the skill to knock them up myself

have you thought about looking at reclamation companies they would be proper old doors which should fit in with you cottagey ethos i dont know prices though as we bought two oak veneered ones and three solid pine ones the pine ones were £125 each and then more to get them installed and osmo oiled doors are not cheap now

Just be careful about buying old ones, they might take so long for a chippy to fit you might as well buy the new ones.

It’s a big chunk of wood, not sure why you’d expect it to be cheap. Also obviously 17 is loads!

I know I know.

You're right.

Nearing the end of the renovations and re-building which has fleeced us and cringing at the price of doors, floors etc.

OP, we found a lot of beautiful 1930s ones on FB marketplace. Keep your eyes on Gumtree, eBay etc. The ones in the rec yards aren't ideal as will likely have been dipped to strip the paint which leaves them very brittle. But there are people out there who have rustic and want modern, and are posting them online before chucking in the skip... Best of luck!

Have you looked at leaderdoors.co.uk? I've just bought the same door as I saw in Howdens for half the Howdens price. You do need to doctor in the delivery charge though.

Primotomb · 03/04/2022 13:30

Factor, not doctor!

Where do you start? I thought internal doors were standard?! Every website seems to offer a choice!
