How long is probate taking right now?

We’re in the process of buying a probate property. We are not part of a chain ourselves and the solicitor said we should be in a position to complete by end of April. However I asked her to check what stage probate was currently at and the response from the vendor’s solicitor is that application for probate has been drawn up but not yet submitted. I also saw this ad in the paper which got my hopes up that perhaps we’ll be close to completion towards end of April but no idea if that’s the case or not really. Any recent experiences to share? My solicitor said probate is currently taking ten weeks from submission . It’s mainly so we can get our builder booked in so that work can start once we’re the legal owners.

I hope not as well. But we will see.

Good luck @Cattenberg - really hope it all works out for you.

Dealing with probate at Newcastle /North Shields department having an absolute nightmare since application went in February
8 months later and lots of e mails and phone calls no grant
Needed a witness statement from a witness to the will who was the doctor to the late person but he has been in a serious RTA and unable to complete the forms,
The doctors practice have said they are surprised at a doctors signature being questioned and have given us written conformation of this
Probate saying the registrar has to look at our case but getting really concerned as nothing seems to being happening
The decased had a lifetime mortage which needs paying by December but despite informing the probate dept they show no urgency or empathy that we could lose everything (House is sold STC with a very patient buyer )
Any advice greatly appreciated

We've just been through the process, done ourselves online. Took 3.5 weeks until probate was granted. Was very impressed.

Ours came through as expected after 8 weeks. House completion went ahead. We are now mid-major building project!
